If you think having a role model and seeing people who are like you when you are growing up is not essential, you are wrong. The power of the media is strong and whatever the message is you receive when you grow up is the one that can either help you or damage you. More
Yes, I admit it: I’ve been watching Celebrity Big Brother for the first time in years. Hearing it was the Year of the Women I was intrigued. Hearing that there were, to be frank, political discussions hooked me. Little did I know what was in store.
Well, about that whole Year of the Women debacle I can be short: they never meant it did they? If they did the selection would have been better. (Almost) all of the women selected were lovely and admirable in their own way, but were they the perfect choice to represent the whole of womanhood?
Not according to the audience who voted three out in the first week and another three in last Tuesday’s eviction. But even ignoring that: the year of the women basically ended when the men entered the house … or even before that: the moment Ann Widdecombe entered and opened her mouth. MORE
Already deep into November, winter is getting nearer & nearer.
We are reaching the tail end of a year that has, once again, been difficult for many of us. We have been tried with an abundance of natural disasters, shootings, murders, terrorism, hate & other painful events.
These are the times when we need something or someone to hold onto.
If you think having a role model & seeing people who are like you isn’t important when you are growing up you are wrong.

Recently I enjoyed watching Netflix’ modern remake of the classic comedy series “One Day At A Time.” It had heart, strong female leads, a positive message and was LGBT-inclusive. As I write this I have just realised how long it has been since I have written an article or a proper story. How long it has been since I felt really okay and that I might have suffered a PTSD related setback. Why has this happened I wonder: I felt so good a few weeks ago. Then I realise it started with watching a new Netflix series called 13 Reasons Why. More
When we think of Cosplay peoples mind usually turn to the stereotype: pasty boys dressing up as their characters and playing out scenes from their favourite sci-fi series in their bedroom. This idea is long since obsolete, though. Forget about bedrooms, cosplay, these days is for everyone: an acceptable way to express yourself, to feel free. Good for the soul and good to relieve stress and anxiety. (More)
If you are taking a break for Christmas, I bet you will be going to watch some seasonal romantic movies or general rom-com. I will be too, what else can you do? It’s Christmas, and they’re cute, sparkly and oh so addictive!
But like Christmas chocolate, they can also be bad for you if you keep “eating” them without thinking about it. When I look at the messages most of these films give young girls, the romance quickly disappears. These movies make me angry!
The reason why these shows and movies anger me so much is because each and every one of them reminds me of the annoying tropes and stereotypes Hollywood should have grown out of by now. More
What is it that makes people want to look away and ignore what is going on right under their noses?
Just because it doesn’t make you happy, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist. We can’t keep burying our heads in the sand, not even Ostriches do that (it’s a myth). More
